We are looking for a R&D manager to join our Selcom business. The role will be based in Shanghai, China.

ABOUT SELCOM

Selcom has been part of the Bonfiglioli’s Group since March 2023. It is a leading mechatronic service partner operating as both Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) and an Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider. It specializes in the end-to-end design and manufacturing of custom high-tech electronic solutions, combining innovative engineering with world-class production capabilities.

As part of the Bonfiglioli Group, Selcom operates in a global environment and serves customers across a range of industries, delivering customized electronic solutions from product development and engineering through to industrialization and serial production.

The R&D Manager will lead a 9-member R&D team, including one Supervisor, with responsibility for team development, project allocation, and technical direction.

MISSION

Responsible for Product development and Technology evolution according to Product Marketing strategies and Customer needs. Ensures Platform R&D projects are delivered on time and on budget and foster product innovation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

APPLICATION ANALYSIS & FEASIBILITY STUDY

• Support the Solution Development team in the Analysis of application Requirements in line with existing product/variant portfolio, the Group development strategy and the Group Manufacturing footprint.
• Elaborate the Technical feasibility Study of new/modified product/concept according to the application requirements and product configuration specification indicated by Solution Development in order to achieve the target product performance, reliability and cost.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

• Plan and assign Design resource to the different Tier 1 and Tier 2 projects as per priority agreed with Sales, Marketing and Solutions Dev.
• Responsible for the design (CAD drawings, 3D model, BOM, related technical documentation) and validation of assigned products line to achieve the product performances and the projects goals (timing and cost), using internal software, state of the arts simulation tools and software, guarantying the compliance to international norms and standard, safety regulation considering environmental impact as well as manufacturability and industrial processes.
• Responsible for the execution Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) to identify the potential risk and their impacts on customers applications, the corrective action plan, the product critical characteristics.
• Responsible for the release and maintenance of detailed drawing and internal technical specification for new components or finished product.
• Assure technical support for the assigned products line to other functions: Quality, Sales, Service, Purchasing and Operations.
• Responsible for the evaluation of the production (primary) deviation of the assigned products.
• Support Field failure analysis to identify the root cause and to define the corrective action plan.
• Support the Solution Development during the technical discussions with the customer during all the phase of the development, including commissioning and prototype/field validation.

TESTING EVALUATION

• Responsible for the definition of the DVP (Design Verification Plan) in order to obtain a verification and validation of the product achieving the performance, durability and reliability requirements.
• Guarantees experimental tests results analysis, identifying the root causes of a problem and defining an action plan for the resolution of any critical issues.

INNOVATION

• Collaborates with BU’s product marketing to define products road map proposing a new product range and/or product range extension Innovation.
• Proactively suggest innovation ideas to Solution development team based on technology competence and being driven by/aligned with directions set by corporate/Bus strategies
• Carry out Research activities to discover and test technology edges aligned with directions set by corporate/BUs strategies.

REQUIREMENTS

• Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Strong background in the electronics manufacturing sector, with end-to-end expertise in PCBA development and manufacturing processes.
• Proven hardware design expertise, combined with a strong track record of managing and developing an R&D/Engineering function.
• Experience in leading R&D/product development projects, including resource planning, project prioritization, project timelines, budgets, and delivery of projects in line with customer and business requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and stakeholder management skills, with a hands-on and solution-oriented approach.
• Fluent in English.
• The position is based in Kingpu Industrial Park, Shanghai. Candidates must be willing and flexible to commute to the location as required by business needs.
